1. What is a shell package or kit?
    
   The shell package begins with engineering, full drawings with ease of construction in mind. The best the industry has to offer is utilized to put together kits that include detailed instructions and complete materials required in order to build a home or cottage shell from exterior and interior walls, floor and roof systems, windows and doors, and complete exterior finishing. The material list that comes with the packages is comprehensive to help do-it-yourselfers, but full or partial Project Management is available within the general area of the Ottawa –Outaouais region.
    

2. What are the options for exterior finishing?
    
   Many options are available for rustic exterior finishes or low maintenance products. We supply natural pine Board & Batten siding or Superior Northern Forest vinyl siding. However, many of our past clients have opted to upgrade to prefinished sidings like Canexel, Maibec, Hardie Plank Siding etc., or log / timber siding. The choice is yours. 3. Can I build this myself?
    
   Yes, that is the most economical choice for people who enjoy hands on projects. Our system is very simple to build and our designs have been created with that idea in mind. Our B package (Panelized option), is even easier to erect. The panels are light & easy to assemble. Our professional support staff is available through a toll free number to assist you with the project. Also, our support documentation is designed with the do-it-yourselfer in mind. Should extra on site consultation be required, one of our associate experienced project managers can be called upon at a reasonable rate in order to assist in whatever may be deemed necessary by the client.
    

4. How do you schedule your deliveries?
    
   Actually, it is up to you! Our system is very flexible so we can offer staged deliveries. This means that your site will be well organized and this practice lessens the chance of weather damage or even theft.
    

5. Can we choose our own design or can we change yours?
    
   Yes to both. Designs can be modified, enlarged or created to suit your particular needs. The best part is that you do not pay extra for these modifications. They are always included in your home/cottage package price.
    

6. What about decks and porches, are they included?
    
   Porch structure & support are always included in standard pressure treated lumber. Decking surfaces and railings options are pressure treated material and cedar. Screen porches are included but the screens and screen doors are excluded. These items are better purchased locally at most hardware stores.
    

7. Do you offer any warranties?
    
   At Northwood, we stand behind what we design and build. We offer a central point full major structural warranty for a period of 15 years. Our building consultant would be happy to elaborate further
    

8. What about shipping costs?
    
   Shipping costs are included within 1 ½ hour of central Ottawa, Ontario (by standard delivery truck).  Quotes can be provided on demand for other areas.
    

9. What are your payment methods?
    
   We require 10% on contract signature, an additional 40% at 60 days before delivery and the balance by certified cheque or bank draft (50%) at delivery. We also offer a “phased payment option” where your final payments are based on your financial institution’s mortgage & financing draws.

Whether you are building in Ontario (the new Ontario Government legislation (BILL 124) or in Québec (where most municipalities now require that your drawings be stamped by a recognized and licensed architectural technologist) we are ready to provide you with the expertise, design and all associated services in order to ensure that your drawings will be approved for building permit.
